My Philosophy
- I adhere to the practices of respectful and positive parenting, working with parents to foster positive secure attachments in their children.
- I believe that parenting is about growth.
- We are not here to raise our children, to discipline them or to make sure they “turn out” so much as we are here to grow them up, to grow with them and to be enlarged and enlivened by having them in our lives!
My Personal Story
I am a mother of three lively children – two daughters ages 12 & 16 and one son, now 18 years old. My parenting began when, after the experience of infertility, my husband and I opened ourselves to the possibility of becoming parents through adoption. I was totally immersed in a challenging and, at times, extremely taxing phase of parenting when I was surprised by an unexpected and welcome pregnancy. With the arrival of our third child, our family expanded and so did my need for support and renewal! Parenting has exerted a tremendous transformative influence in my life and I continue to have many opportunities to deepen my reservoir of compassion and understanding for my children and myself. A few years ago, as the realities of parenting through the teen years appeared on my horizon, I became aware of a profound sense of depletion and exhaustion within myself. In an effort to reverse this trend, I engaged a Parent Coach who, gently and conscientiously, helped me reconnect to my best self, set new parenting intentions and recover a deep satisfaction in my experience of being family.
